Ed Bates Ed Bates is an ITRC stakeholder in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2009, he retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency after 32 years service with the EPA Office of Research and Development, including over 20 years working as an expert technical advisor on site characterization, remedy design, and remedy construction for nearly 100 CERCLA and RCRA sites including more than 25 solidification/stabilization sites, 22 treatability studies for solidification/stabilization, 22 mining sites, and 25 wood preserving sites. Prior to working for EPA, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources for 5 years and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 2 years. He has been a member of the ITRC Solidification / Stabilization since the team began in 2009. Ed earned a bachelor’s degree in 1968 and a master’s degree in 1970 both in geology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
