Akram Alshawabkeh, Ph.D., is the George A. Snell Professor of Engineering at Northeastern University and the director of the Northeastern University Superfund Research Program Puerto Rico Testsite for Exploring Contamination Threats Center. He has expertise in electrokinetic and electrochemical processes, contaminant fate and transport, soil and groundwater remediation, and environmental restoration. Alshawabkeh and his research team are developing novel, sustainable, solar-powered, and environmentally friendly technologies for remediation of contaminated groundwater, especially in karst regions. He received his Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from Louisiana State University.
