Shiann-Jang ("S.J.") Chern is an USEPA Region 9 Superfund Remedial Project Manager (RPM) who has over ten years of experience managing different Superfund sites cleanup including the OII Landfill Superfund Site. He joined in 1994 to certify the Department of Energy's (DOE's) Transuranic Waste Repository (WIPP Project). Prior to his experience with USEPA, Dr. Chern was the lead geotechnical engineer at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, overseeing the DOE's High Level Waste Yucca Mountain Project. He was also the member of USEPA Region 9 Clean Air Initiative and the contributor to the USEPA Smart Energy Resources Guidance. He manages OII Landfill Superfund site which implemented methane to power green remediation technology seven years ago. Dr. Chern also has extensive experience in the private sector where he served as a geotechnical/environmental engineer, senior engineer, and technical manager for over ten years with various companies including Science Application International Inc., (SAIC). He holds a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees in the Civil & Environmental Engineering. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Civil Engineering in the State of California.
