Dibakar Bhattacharyya, Ph.D., (DB) is the University of Kentucky Alumni Chair Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering, a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and Director of the Center of Membrane Sciences. He has published over 200 refereed articles (including 2 books, and several book chapters), and has 9 U.S. Patents in functionalized membranes and water detoxification area. Recently, by working with Nanostone Co (Oceanside, CA) he and his associates have made (through UK licensing of patents) both pore-functionalized and positively-charged NF membranes in full-scale and in module form for water related applications. The membrane pore functionalization and in-situ iron based nanoparticle synthesis have provided new catalytic approaches to degrade organics. Dr. Bhattacharyya has received a number of awards for his research and educational accomplishments, including the Gerhold Award from the AICHE Separations Division and the Larry K. Cecil AIChE Environmental Division Award, for his outstanding contributions in Membrane Separations Technology Development in water area. He is the editor of a recently published book (Responsive Membranes and Materials) published by John Wiley.
