Mr. Cooley has 27 years of professional experience in the radiological and environmental safety field. He completed his initial radiological and health physics training at Newport News Shipbuilding, and served as a certified Radiological Control Monitor under the U. S. Navy's Nuclear Reactor Program. He served 10 years as a Health Physics Specialist and Radiological Engineer as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy. He has been with the U.S. EPA's Environmental Response Training Program for the past 16 years and serves as Radiation Safety Officer for the Environmental Response Training Program. He is the Course Lead for the Radiation Safety-Overview For Environmental Professionals, Radiation Safety-Practical Applications, and Radiation Safety-Advanced For Environmental Professionals courses. He is also the Course Lead for Advanced Radiation Training. Responsibilities include day to day management of the training courses, oversee compliance with the work assignments, purchase and maintain course equipment, develop lecture presentations and radiological training exercises, conduct on-the-job training for new radiation instructors and technicians, and generate work assignment monthly reports and course summaries. He functions as Course Director during training presentations. He routinely develops and conducts workshop training in support of the USEPA's environmental outreach training program, and special projects training such as Radiation Task Force Leader training. He currently serves as senior instructor for several environmental training courses including: OSHA 1910.120 - Hazardous Materials and Incident Response Operations, Sampling For Hazardous Materials, Health and Safety Eight Hour Training, Anthrax Response Training, Readiness Response Training and Exercises, ICS Liaison Officer training, and ICS/Simulations. Although his primary background is in radiation safety, he has gained an enormous amount of training and knowledge in other related disciplines such as Environmental and Chemical Safety, Industrial Hygiene, CT/WMD, and Hazardous Materials Response. He is proficient in the use of various air monitoring instruments such as oxygen indicators, combustible gas indicators, toxic vapor monitors, chemical and biological agent detectors, colorimetric detector tube systems, and radiation monitoring instruments. He also has experience using various testing and sampling equipment for hazardous materials; and chemical, biological and radiological agents.
