Dr. Thomas F. JenkinsDr. Jenkins is a research chemist at the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Jenkins' research work has centered on the development of fixed laboratory-based and on-site analytical methods for explosives residues in soil and ground water. Dr. Jenkins research has led to the promulgation of EPA SW846 Method 8330, the industry standard method for analysis of explosives in soil and water, and Method 8515, a colorimetric method for on-site analysis of TNT in soil. Dr. Jenkins research activities have also concerned the development of appropriate sampling methods to collect representative soil samples in areas of very heterogeneous explosives contamination. Dr. Jenkins was the first to document the levels of explosives residues at antitank firing ranges and is involved in an effort to characterize the levels of contamination at various DoD testing and training ranges. Recently Dr. Jenkins has participated in a DARPA sponsored effort to characterize the chemical signature in the soil and atmosphere above buried land mines.
