Kris Krider became Planning Director for the Town of Davidson, North Carolina in November, 2003. His wife Michele and two daughters moved from the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked as a senior urban designer for two nationally recognized firms, ROMA Design Group and SMWM. Prior to San Francisco, Kris worked for the City of Portland, Oregon in their Pedestrian Program.
A native of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Kris has worked in the private sector for 18 years in a variety of architectural consulting firms. He received his undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and received his Masters degree in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994.
The son of a professional photographer, Kris has amassed a collection of over 15,000 slides documenting the built environment and landscape. He has a particular fascination with small towns, walled cities and public spaces. The opportunity to work in Davidson has allowed Kris to apply his design skills and advocacy for community well-being into a leadership position supported by a planning ordinance based on smart growth principles, a committed leadership and an informed citizenry who are dedicated to maintaining a high quality of life and demand only the best in new development
