Jim Shine, Ph.D.Jim Shine is a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. His research expertise is in the area of aquatic biogeochemistry. In particular, his research projects have investigated the transport, speciation and fate of chemical contaminants related to adverse human and ecological health outcomes. These studies have ranged from development of bioavailability sensors, mercury and heavy metal biogeochemistry studies, and development of methods for contaminant risk assessment in sediments. Dr. Shine earned his Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Massachusetts/Boston and a B.S. in Biology from St. Lawrence University. He has served on a number of advisory panels for state, national and international organizations to promote appropriate application of physical sciences in the environmental decision-making process.
