William Muno

William E. Muno is the Director of the Superfund Division and is the overall manager for all Region 5 programs under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) also known as Superfund. This Division was formed in October 1995 as a result of a Region 5 reorganization. He has been employed at the Region 5 Office of U.S. EPA since April 1973

The Superfund Division is the lead division in Region 5 responsible for implementing the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), and the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA). The Superfund Division manages the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of all technical, enforcement, and administrative support aspects of the Superfund Program within the Region, including emergency response activities, the SARA Title III program, the Brownfields program, remedial and enforcement activities at Superfund Sites, community relations, State and Tribal Cooperative Agreements, information and records management, technical analysis and support, and contracts management.

Mr. Muno graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1971 receiving a bachelor’s degree with honors in chemical engineering. In 1973, he received a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University. Since 1978, he has been a registered professional engineer in the State of Illinois.
