Michel Sylvestre

Following B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Microbiology obtained from the University of Montreal, Michel Sylvestre got a Ph.D. degree with a joint major in Microbiology and Pharmaceutical Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin (Madison, USA) in 1974. That same year he was appointed as assistant professor at the University of Quebec where he initiated studies on microbial transformation of xenobiotics. His research experience for the past 30 years includes microbial ecology, environmental biotechnology, genetic engineering of microbial pathways and enzymes. He is currently appointed as full professor at Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier) where he pursues his research program on the engineering of the microbial catabolic pathways and enzymes involved in the degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls.
