Ward Wilson

Dr. Wilson is Professor and Chair of Mining and the Environment in the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia. He has developed an extensive program in the area of soil cover systems for mine waste management problems such as reducing acid drainage from sulfide bearing tailings and waste rock. Dr. Wilson is involved in both fundamental and applied research programs that include field instrumentation for soil-climate interactions, laboratory studies for characterization of hydraulic and thermal properties of soils, and numerical modeling for cover system performance. He also led the development of the comprehensive numerical model ‘SoilCover’ for the prediction of soil cover performance. Dr. Wilson is currently engaged in sites located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Australia and Asia
