David Ervin, Portland State University

David ErvinDavid Ervin is Professor of Environmental Studies and Coordinator of Academic Sustainability Programs at Portland State University. His current research areas include business environmental management, university-industry relationships and biotechnology R&D, and trade and the environment. He writes and speaks on these topics to local, national and international audiences. He is the project director of “Public Goods and University-Industry Relationships in Agricultural Biotechnology” funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and “ Oregon Business Decisions for Environmental Performance” funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Some recent publications include Does Environmental Policy Work? co-edited with J. Kahn and M. Livingston (Elgar), “Towards an Ecological Systems Approach in Public Research for Environmental Regulation of Transgenic Crops” Agriculture, Ecosystems and the Environment, Public Concerns, Environmental Standards and Agricultural Trade, co-edited with F. Brouwer (CAB International), “Green Business Rising” in Choices, and “Biotechnology and the Environment: Issues and Linkages,” Environment and Development Economics. He consults with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the North American Commission on Environmental Cooperation. He holds BS and MS degrees from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from Oregon State University, and spent a sabbatical leave at Cambridge University.
