Kent Udell, Ph.D

Kent Udell, Ph.DDr. Kent Udell is a full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. He is the Director of the Berkeley Environmental Restoration Center. He is internationally recognized for his research in multiphase heat and mass transfer in porous media, particularly in the area of in-situ soil and groundwater remediation. He is generally credited for pioneering steam injection for the in-situ remediation of sites contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) and has been actively involved in the field since 1986. In August, 1999, he received the EPA Outstanding Remediation Technology Award for technical excellence in the development of in situ thermal treatment technologies.
