Practical Considerations for Source Area Treatment—Interim Measures

This presentation describes the project benefits achieved via recent implementation of 6 in-situ source area treatment projects conducted as RCRA Corrective Action Interim Measures at the Charleston Naval Complex. The in-situ source area treatment projects included Electrical Resistance Heating at a former dry cleaner, three in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) projects, and two in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR) projects. The RCRA Corrective Action and BRAC property transfer objectives that led to the decision to implement these Interim Measures are described.

In addition, this presentation discusses key practical considerations for achieving successful Source Area Treatment projects. These practical considerations are not technology-specific, rather they are fundamental issues that should be considered for all in-situ source area treatment projects in order to effectively meet the needs and expectations of all stakeholders.
