The U.S. EPA Technology Innovation Office (TIO) is proud to announce a new service to keep you abreast of developments in technologies for site characterization and remediation. We are initiating this service to better serve our clients' need for current information on technologies.

What is the service?

TechDirect is a free service that highlights new publications and events of interest to site remediation and site assessment professionals. At the beginning of every month, we will send you a message describing the availability of publications and events. Our short messages will describe the publication or event and direct you to places to obtain further information. If you like the service, do nothing. If you do not wish to receive the notifications, you may unsubscribe easily (see below).

Who are we?

TIO produces numerous one-time and periodic publications and electronic information on technologies and markets for soil and ground water remediation. We strive to provide information that is relevant to technology developers, academics, consulting engineers, and state and federal regulators. TIO's mission is to advance the use of new technologies for characterization and remediation.

Most of the information TIO generates resides on our Clean-Up Information (CLU-IN) home page at http://clu-in.org. CLU-IN is intended as a forum for all stakeholders in waste remediation and contains information on policies, programs, organizations, publications and databases useful to waste remediation professionals. The site contains technology descriptions and reports as well as current news on business aspects of waste site remediation. It includes links to other sites important to managers interested in site characterization and soil and groundwater remediation technologies.

Now Available:

Bibliography for Innovative Site Clean-Up Technologies (EPA 542-B-96-003).

Identifies over 200 technical EPA publications, databases and home pages related to site assessment and remediation. Download from CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.

Vendor Information System for Innovative Treatment Technologies (VISITT)=Version 5.0

Released in December 1996, VISITT 5.0 is a user friendly, pc-based system providing data on 346 innovative treatment technologies (75% of which are available commercially) provided by 210 vendors. The system enables you to build queries based on conditions at your site. Download from CLU-IN. Diskettes and user manual, contact the VISITT help line 800-245-4505. Partnerships for the Remediation of Hazardous Waste (EPA 542-R-96-006). Describes four federal/state/private sector partnerships for the development and evaluation of remediation and characterization technologies. See related information on CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.

Technology Evaluation Report: Treatment Walls (TE-96-01)

This report prepared by the Ground Water Remediation Technologies Analysis Center (GWRTAC) provides a state of the art review of treatment walls. Information used to prepare this report was gathered primarily from peer-reviewed papers and publications. Report contains a description of the technology and information on performance, cost, applicability, regulatory/policy requirements, lessons learned, and general references. Download from http://gwrtac.org.

Technology Summaries

These summaries prepared by GWRTAC provide an introduction to the general principles and techniques associated with the technologies listed below, a discussion of the technology applicability to groundwater remediation, data related to results of its use, advantages/disadvantages of the technology, and references. Download from http://gwrtac.org.

1. Artificially-Induced or Blast-Enhanced Fracturing to Improve Groundwater Recovery for Treatment and Migration Control (TS-96-01) 2. Horizontal Wells (TS-96-02). 3. Phytoremediation (TS-96-03). 4. Airsparging (TS-96-04). 5. Bioslurping (TS-96-05). 6. Ultraviolet/Oxidation Treatment Processes (TS-96-06).

Accessing Federal Databases for Contaminated Site Clean-Up Technologies (EPA 542-B-95-005)

This reference tool developed by the Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable provides abstracts of information on accessing both federal databases that contain data on innovative remediation technologies and federal information exchange systems. Download from CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.

Accessing the Federal Government: Site Remediation Technology Programs and Initiatives (EPA 542-B-95-006)

This guide provides information to developers and vendors of innovative and alternative hazardous waste remediation technologies on Federal remediation technology development programs. It includes information on joint ventures and public private partnerships for remediation and site characterization technologies. Download from CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.

Federal Publications on Alternative and Innovative Treatment Technologies for Corrective Action and Site Remediation (EPA 542-B-95-004)

This bibliography provides a list of titles and ordering information for publication on innovative technology development and demonstration issued by the member agencies of the Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable. Download from CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.

State Funds in Transition: Models for Underground Storage Tank Assurance Funds (EPA 510-B-97-002)

This booklet developed by the Office of Underground Storage Tanks presents case studies describing activities three states have conducted in making a transition from a state fund program to other financial assurance mechanisms. It also describes five programs that might serve as models for states that have decided to change the structure of their state funds. Download from CLU-IN. Hard copy (800) 490-9198.
