Tom Bloom, EPA Region 5 (bloom.thomas@epa.gov)
Tom Bloom is the Region 5 Superfund Redevelopment Coordinator and has been working with communities in his Region since the inception of the Superfund Redevelopment Initiative in 1999. Tom has worked with nearly 100 communities in Region 5 to help consider reuse as part of the cleanup process. Tom has decades of experience with EPA as both a remedial project manager and an on-scene coordinator. He has presented at numerous Brownfields, NARPM, and other conferences on the topic of Superfund Redevelopment and is considered a national expert.
Kat West, Skeo Solutions (kwest@skeo.com)
Kat is a non-practicing environmental attorney with over 15 years of experience in successful contaminated property redevelopment. For 10 years, she served as a senior enforcement attorney at U.S. EPA and as the Land Revitalization Legal Coordinator for EPA's Southeast Region. Kat helped create national policies and guidance for Superfund enforcement and site reuse, including Prospective Purchaser Agreements, AAI, comfort letters, and windfall liens. Kat co-created the extremely successful Prospective Purchaser Inquiry process that bridges the gaps between developers, municipalities and U.S. EPA to accelerate the revitalization of contaminated properties. Kat is uniquely skilled in facilitating discussion of liability protections, property encumbrances and reuse compatibility with current and future site conditions. Kat's ability to find creative yet practical solutions to complex environmental problems is her superpower. Her boundless energy and passion for sustainable solutions drives her to work tirelessly in pursuit of her clients' goals. Kat is recognized as a leader in her field, as an accomplished facilitator, collaborator and educator, and as a popular presenter at conferences.
Paul Hyde, Hyde Development (paul@hyde-dev.com)
Paul Hyde is CEO of Hyde Development. Hyde Development is a family-owned commercial real estate developer and investor based in Minneapolis, MN. Paul and Mac Hyde co-founded Hyde Development in 2012 with a focus on urban redevelopment and brownfield sites. Since then, the company has completed over 4.4 million square feet of industrial and office development in Minnesota, Colorado and North Dakota. Hyde Development projects have won numerous awards including NAIOP Awards of Excellence, Business Journal Best in Real Estate Awards, Finance and Commerce Top Projects and MN Brownfields ReScape Awards. Current Hyde Developments include the 1.8 million square foot Northern Stacks industrial park in MN (in partnership with M.A. Mortenson Co.), the 1.7 million square foot 76 Commerce Center project in Denver and the 1.8 million sf Highpoint - Elevated industrial park in Aurora Colorado. Paul has a JD from Northeastern University Law School and an LLM from Boston University School of Law. Paul has been named to the Business Journal 40 under 40 and one of the 100 People to Know in 2018 by Twin Cities Business.

Ms Balent is on the staff of the EPA's Technology Innovation and Field Services Division where she has worked to collect and disseminate hazardous waste remediation and characterization information since 2003. Ms Balent manages the Clean Up Information Network website and actively supports online communication and collaboration resources available to EPA. She formerly worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Engineering Division in the Buffalo District. Ms Balent was also a member of the SUNY-Buffalo Groundwater Research Group where she constructed and tested large scale models of groundwater flow. Ms Balent has also conducted research relating to the Great Lakes, environmental remediation, and brownfields re-development. She holds a Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from SUNY-Buffalo and a Master's degree in Information Technology from AIU.
